Ophthalmic Pathology

The Ophthalmic Pathology Service is concerned with the diagnosis of cytology and tissue specimens from the eye and orbit. The service processes and interprets surgical, cytology, and autopsy specimens, with special interest in ocular and lacrimal gland neoplasms and fine needle aspiration of tumors in the eye and orbit.

Services


Consultation services provided for examination of enucleation and exenteration specimens
Biopsies from the eye and eyelids
Cytologic specimens from the eye and orbit, including fine needle aspiration biopsies
Resection and biopsy reviews

Ophthalmology and Pathology residents
formal ophthalmic pathology training for residents, neuropathology fellows, ophthalmic pathology fellows
Elective for medical students- OP-264.01.

Basic Science- structure and function of tear proteins
Clinical and Translational Research:
  • pathologic mechanisms of dry eye diseases and ocular surface disorders
  • Study of ocular and lacrimal gland diseases
