Skeletal & Soft Tissue Pathology

Skeletal and soft tissue pathology is the study of bone, skeletal muscle, and soft tissue disorders including degenerative, inflammatory, neoplastic and non-neoplastic conditions. Tumors of bone and soft tissues, including sarcomas, are relatively rare and complete evaluation requires both expertise and use of modern techniques. Biopsies as well as complete resections are examined with special emphasis on correlation with therapy and use of predictive markers.

Services:

Expert interpretation of microscopic pathology, including core needle biopsies, open biopsies and excisions
Correlation of skeletal pathology with available imaging studies
Electron microscopy
Cytogenetics
Immunohistochemistry
Fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH) for selected common translocations

Education:

Resident Training
Conferences

Clinical and Translational Research:

Bone and soft tissue tumors
